If you’ve been on the hunt for the perfect luxury vehicle, you’re going to have plenty of options to choose from. Indeed, finding luxurious, high-tech vehicles is easy—it’s in narrowing down your options where the challenge truly lies. Many of our Lexington and Irmo neighbors end up comparing Acura vs. Lexus, and it’s not hard to see why.
Both of these Japanese luxury automakers deliver vehicles with excellent ride quality, plenty of standard features and accessible pricing. However, if you prioritize either reliability or hybrid power, Lexus is simply bringing more to the table.
Every year, J.D. Power releases comprehensive predicted reliability assessments for dozens of different vehicles. How well do top luxury brands like Lexus and Acura compare? According to the 2024 J.D. Power Dependability Study, Lexus comes out on top for the second consecutive year:

This is huge. Drivers who choose Acura vehicles will experience approximately 15% more problems and service visits on average, and 60% more problems and service visits throughout their vehicles’ lifespans, compared to those who drive a Lexus.
Of course, Acura isn’t the only brand that Lexus dominates in the 2024 rankings.In fact, Lexus ranks first for overall vehicle dependability, while Toyota comes in at a close second. This makes the Toyota Motor Corporation the most dependable carmaker on the 2024 list, with 9 segment awards overall. This is the most received by any single carmaker since 2017, when the Toyota Motor Corporation took home 10 segment awards.
On a segment-by-segment basis too, Lexus had an excellent showing. The Lexus IS and Lexus ES were rated as the highest quality compact premium and mid-size premium cars, respectively, in the Cars segment, while the Lexus NX and Lexus RX won for highest quality compact premium SUV and mid-size premium SUV in the SUV segment.
Did you know that Lexus was the very first brand to combine high-performance gas and electric powertrains in a luxury vehicle? Their dedication to hybrid innovation continues to this day, and the Lexus lineup includes many more hybrid models than the Acura lineup.
Acura, by contrast, discontinued production of hybrid vehicles in early 2024 in favor of developing a new all-electric lineup. And though used Acura RDX, Acura MDX, and Acura NSX hybrids are still available at some dealerships and may appeal to some drivers, more Irmo and Chapin drivers will find something to get excited about on our lot.
